The Mentor Generation and the Mentee Generation

There is the passing of the baton of the church right now, not just at Foundation Stone, or even Toledo, but the larger body of Christ around the world.

And it’s helpful for us to clarify two distinct generations that are present and alive in the church in this day.

Communicating Hard Truths

Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Jireh; we know Him by many names, all of which express an intrinsic quality that He possesses.  However, one of the names is often glossed over is that of Jesus Christ, the great communicator.  In fact, He was the greatest communicator to ever have walked the face of the earth.  He came offering humanity a new reality, a new way of thinking; a new way of doing; a new way of being.  He was the ultimate agent of change.  And, as is the usual response to change, the new reality Jesus brought was met with resistance and therefore required impeccable communication.

The Lie and The Beam

The Lie

When God moves, his presence has such a liberating effect on His people. We are set free – from deceptive inhibitions that lie to us about

what’s important in life,

what really matters to God, and

how we are to live out our calling as his children and as image bearers for him.

One of the most artful deceits the enemy has crafted against the body of Christ is that in response to shifting cultural norms and expectations, we as Christians must be agreeable, silent spectators.

Believing God

Many influences in our daily lives have the ability to chip away at the columns of our biblical worldview and our faith in God.

Happy New Year

Millions of people have this view at the new year: standing at the foot of this rocky, intimidating mountain. We want to do better and scale this mountain, to aspire to new heights and beat harmful habits we’d rather not live with. we, think of starting new habits – exercising, pursuing a new hobby, taking more time to reflect and not react to life’s challenges, commit anew to seek God where He is today in our lives. This is consecration.

Any student of the Bible knows that the Temple in Jerusalem went through periods of devastation, even dismantling, during the reigns of evil kings and priests. The Temple also went through periods of restoration during the reigns of good kings and priests. The Body of Christ, the true and eternal Temple of God has also experienced periods of devastation and periods of restoration. The periods of devastation were marked by a lack of faith in God, disobedience, and rejection of God’s Word.

Fall in line,” culture says.

Don't be different than us, don't think differently than us – we only want you to agree with us,” society says.

We don't need the God of the Bible – He's antique! Out of date!” men and women say.

There are so many voices attacking the biblical ways of life, attacking the idea of God as leader of our lives, that sometimes, it leaves us feeling silly choosing God's kingdom over what others expect us to do. We feel odd, out of place, foolish. In parenting, it's an uphill climb to teach our children habits and behavior that will leave them looking foolish and out of place.
